The new gambling laws of 2010 in France

Online gambling is a very controversial subject that many people cannot agree on. In some countries it is perfectly legal while others absolutely forbid it while various other mediums are reached in a few different countries. France is the newest nation to legalize online gambling.

The Bill Itself
This bill in simple terms makes it legal to gamble online in the country of France. The French Senate approved the first rendition of it in February and then left the remaining approval up to the European Union along with the Constitutional Council and Supreme Court of France as well.

The European Union and Adherence
The European Union works together to try to maintain standards that should be followed by everyone who is included in it. This means that all laws should follow the basic standards. There is a problem with the gambling bill which was introduced in France though because opponents of the bill state that it does not comply with the Union's regulations. The primary complaint is that the games of chance are not going to be included and allowed under France's new laws.

Games of Chance
Gambling addictions are problems that many people face in addition to other addictions that plague the world. As a result of this games such as roulette, baccarat, and blackjack have been banned from the law while the game of poker is legal along with betting on different sports games. The lotto and various scratch offs are also included under the law. Because these specific games have been banned there seems to be extraordinary limitations placed on the citizens. French citizens are not going to be allowed to participate in roulette, baccarat, or blackjack games.

The True Problem
The major reason that people have such an issue with online gambling being regulated is because there is a monopoly that is owned by the government on the gambling industry. The rules are going to be strict and extremely regulated while taxes have the potential to increase even more. This is not something that the citizens of the country want to welcome.

Opening Opportunities and Doors
Since the market has been opened up though a few different sites and companies are trying to get their share of the market by applying to get licensed in the country including PokerStars, PartyGaming, and Bwin among many others.

Will it be successful?
Since the monopoly still exists and there is regulation on the types of games that are allowed the critics of the bill are hesitant to welcome it as a positive piece of legislation. Some of the people who manage to get licensed may get by these first few regulations but then another hurdle ends up crossing the path. The tax rate that the government is imposing is 9% and as a result if an online gambling company is able to start up they will have a huge hit to their profits.

Regardless of whether or not the bill is supported by everyone, it has been moving forward and only time can tell what will happen.
